Retail chain store law update #2

Changes to San Francisco retail chain store law.

On July 7, 2015, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors made changes to the Formula Retail Employee Rights Ordinances. The changes are:

  • To be covered, employers must have 40 retail sales establishments (increased from 20 establishments)
  • Pay for employees scheduled for on-call shifts when their shifts are changed with less than seven-day’s notice
  • Enforcement by warnings only for the first three months following July 3, 2015
  • Part-time employees’ right to take three days to decide whether to accept additional hours
  • Employers’ ability to notify employees of offer of additional hours by posting a notice in the workplace
